Watch the English version of Game Science's official 2025 CG announcement. The studio describes the project as a standard single-player action RPG for PC and mainstream consoles; no release date has been announced. A 15-minute gameplay trailer followed on August 20, 2026 (see what has happened since).

What the trailer confirms
The teaser announces Zhong Kui as the protagonist of the next Black Myth title. Game Science says it shares the series' foundation in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore, while telling a new story with a different lead character.
CG announcement, not gameplay footage
The official FAQ calls this video a CG short and says the project was at a very early stage when it was announced. Treat visual details in this teaser as tone-setting imagery rather than confirmed combat systems; the 2026 gameplay trailer is the better guide to how the game plays.
What has happened since the announcement
In February 2026, ahead of the Lunar New Year, Game Science released a six-minute live-action short that it labeled non-canon and for entertainment only (TechNode). On August 20, 2026, the studio's yearly progress-report date, it released a 15-minute gameplay trailer captured from a work-in-progress build; coverage by Gematsu and RPG Site notes that the final game may differ. As of this page's last check on October 22, 2026, no release date has been announced (Wikipedia).
